Dr. Sukumar Devotta

​Expert and technical advisor in sustainable cooling

Dr. Sukumar Devotta has been an advisor in refrigeration and air-conditioning for many prestigious Indian and global technical committees, as well as a consultant for several international agencies, including BIS, GIZ, GoI Steering Committee on Montreal Protocol, Indo-US Task Force on HFCs, ISHRAE Refrigeration Committee (Chairman), UNEP Refrigeration Technical Option Committee, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, World Bank New Ozone Operations Research Group, and IEC Working Group on Flammable Refrigerants (A2 and A3). Dr. Devotta is a former director of the National Environment Engineering Research Institute and Director Grade Scientist at the National Chemical Laboratory, both in India. He received the prestigious "Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award" in 1997 from the US Environmental Protection Agency, commendation letters from the Executive Director of UNEP and the President of Switzerland, and the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 as part of the United Nations Inter-Government Panel on Climate Change. He has published more than 250 research papers in international journals and coauthored several monographs and books.
